One sign of aging that may be overlooked is reduced volume near the temples. As volume is lost in this area, patients may notice a hollow or sunken appearance. Thankfully, Juvéderm injections can be a suitable solution, and one that is completely non-surgical. This means that patients can enjoy a naturally youthful and balanced appearance without requiring extensive downtime or unnecessarily uncomfortable side effects. For patients in the Chicago area, Dr. Skura can provide Juvéderm injections at Art Aesthetica.

What is Temple Augmentation with Juvéderm?

The temples commonly lose volume over time as patients age. This can result in a gaunt or sunken appearance, making patients look older than they feel. Restoring volume to the temple area is a subtle yet effective way to create a more youthful look. For patients addressing volume loss in other areas, including the cheeks or midface, augmenting the temples can also create a balanced overall appearance. At Art Aesthetica in Chicago, nonsurgical temple augmentation is achieved using Juvéderm. Juvéderm is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler that requires no incisions or anesthesia, limiting side effects and downtime while effectively adding volume to areas including the temples.

What to Expect During Treatment

The first step of temple augmentation is to complete a consultation with Dr. Skura. During your consultation, she will review your aesthetic concerns, goals for treatment, and health history, including any allergies or relevant medical conditions.

After determining that you are a suitable candidate, injections can take place. Often, nonsurgical temple augmentation using Juvéderm can be completed the same day as your initial consultation. Dr. Skura will thoroughly cleanse your skin to prevent any complications. As needed, topical numbing products can then be applied. This is not always necessary, as Juvéderm contains lidocaine within its formula to help maintain comfort. After numbing has taken effect, the injections can be administered. This can be completed quickly, with injections often taking no more than about 15 minutes.

Aftercare Instructions

Following Juvéderm injections for the temples, no downtime is necessary. Patients are free to drive themselves home and may immediately return to their routines if they choose. Some common side effects can include redness, swelling, tenderness, and bruising at the injection site. These are minimal and typically resolve within 48 hours or less.

After receiving injections, Dr. Skura will advise you to avoid anti-inflammatory or blood-thinning medications as well as strenuous activity, alcohol, smoking, direct sun exposure, or applying products including makeup to the injection site.

Juvéderm results can last up to two years. Over time, the body will naturally and safely break down the product. If you choose, you may receive routine maintenance injections with Dr. Skura. During your consultation, a long-term treatment plan can be discussed.

As a Pre-Medicine student, it is very hard getting a shadowing position. Dr. Skura was very kind and welcoming when I asked if I could come in and shadow her! I feel that the experience I had with her truly made me realize which path is right for me! I was impressed by the fact that she knows and remembers so much about all her patients! Her coworkers and staff are also very friendly and helpful!”
