Juvéderm is a hyaluronic acid-based injectable filler. This is a naturally-occurring molecule that creates a hydrated and plump appearance in the skin. Juvéderm’s ability to create a fuller appearance where it is injected makes it a great option for areas including the cheeks and mid-face, where patients often notice a sunken or hollow appearance. This can also contribute to the appearance of sagging or lines such as nasolabial folds. By injecting Juvéderm into these areas, patients can restore youthful volume without requiring the extensive downtime of a surgical procedure.
What to Expect During Treatment
First, Dr. Skura will conduct a thorough consultation to ensure that you are a suitable candidate for Juvéderm. This includes reviewing your health history, cosmetic concerns, and goals for the treatment.
Juvéderm injections can be completed quickly. After thoroughly cleansing the area, Dr. Skura may apply a topical numbing product. However, this is not always necessary, as Juvéderm contains lidocaine within its formula. After preparing and marking the skin, injections can be made. Juvéderm injections can often be completed in as little as 15 minutes.
Aftercare Instructions
Juvéderm requires no downtime. Patients can immediately return to their routines following their appointments. However, some patients opt for a short period of social downtime because of potentially visible side effects. These can include redness, swelling, and bruising. Patients also typically experience some tenderness at the injection site. Side effects are temporary and typically resolve within about two days or less.
After your Juvéderm injections, Dr. Skura will ask you to avoid strenuous activities such as exercise, direct sun exposure to the injection site, alcohol, smoking, and anti-inflammatory or blood-thinning medications including ibuprofen. In addition, you should avoid applying products including makeup to the injection sites for at least 24 hours. Juvéderm results are immediately noticeable, though some swelling will impact the initial appearance.
Juvéderm is not permanent. In the cheeks and midface, results may last up to two years. Gradually, the body will naturally and safely metabolize the product.
