What is Xeomin (Botulinum Toxin Type A)?

Xeomin is an FDA-approved prescription medication and temporary treatment that is injected into the skin to relax muscles in the face and other areas. It can be used for cosmetic reasons to smooth upper facial lines like forehead lines or glabella lines between the eyebrows(frown lines) and to slim the face, as well as to treat headaches and migraines, hyperhidrosis, bruxism, and TMJ.

Like Botox, Xeomin is formulated with botulinum toxin type A, which works by blocking signals from nerves to muscles, causing the muscles to relax and facial wrinkles to smooth. Unlike Botox or other botulinum toxin products, however, Xeomin does not contain additives, which makes it a “purer” form of this treatment. This may result in a lower chance of allergic reaction for some people.

Some patients notice side effects of Xeomin like redness at the injection site, muscle weakness, skin infection, or drooping eyelids, but these are typically temporary.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do the effects of Xeomin last?

The effects of Xeomin typically last 3–6 months, depending on the individual and the treatment area. Regular maintenance sessions can help sustain the results and prevent the return of dynamic wrinkles.

How long does it take Xeomin to start working?

Xeomin usually starts working within 3–4 days, with full results visible in about 10–14 days.

What conditions can Xeomin treat?

Xeomin is FDA-approved to treat frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, and medical conditions like cervical dystonia and blepharospasm.

How is Xeomin administered?

Xeomin is administered via small injections directly into the targeted muscles. It temporarily relaxes the muscles, reducing wrinkles.

How often should I get Xeomin injections?

Most patients in Chicago schedule Xeomin injections every 3–4 months to maintain results. The frequency may vary depending on individual responses and aesthetic goals.

What is Xeomin?

Xeomin is an FDA-approved injectable treatment that temporarily relaxes targeted facial muscles to reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions.

How does Xeomin work?

Xeomin contains botulinum toxin type A, which blocks nerve signals to specific muscles. By relaxing these muscles, it softens wrinkles such as frown lines and prevents them from deepening.

How is Xeomin different from other neurotoxins?

Xeomin is sometimes referred to as a “naked” neurotoxin because it does not contain accessory proteins. This purified formulation may reduce the likelihood of developing resistance over time.

Is the Xeomin procedure painful?

Most patients report minimal discomfort. The injections are performed with a very fine needle, and the procedure is quick. Numbing cream or ice may be used if needed.

How long does the treatment take?

A typical Xeomin treatment session takes about 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated.
